How these ratings work

Every team starts each season near the league average, partly carried over from its previous rating, and gains or loses points after each game. Beating a strong opponent, winning on the road and winning by a wide margin all move a rating more. Ratings are on an Elo-style scale where 1500 is average. A 100-point gap is roughly a 64% chance for the better team on a neutral court. Playoff games count too. This is our own model and a simple one: it does not know about injuries, trades or lineups.
